About Tour Full Day Parque Pingüino Rey

The King Penguin is the second-largest penguin species in the world, after the Emperor Penguin. It is a migratory bird that travels from its breeding grounds on sub-Antarctic islands in search of food. On the coasts of Tierra del Fuego, evidence shows that it has been a frequent visitor since the time of the native Selknam people, as King Penguin bones have been found in their archaeological sites. Departing from Punta Arenas, we’ll cross the historic Strait of Magellan aboard a ferry that connects the mainland with Chile’s largest island. During the crossing, it’s possible to spot pelagic birds such as petrels, as well as sea lions and Commerson’s dolphins, all characteristic wildlife of the southern channels. Once on the island, we’ll travel across the Patagonian steppe until reaching Bahía Inútil, home to one of the most important King Penguin colonies currently in existence. This colony is under active conservation management to preserve its natural habitat for the future.
