About Sendero Aonikenk y Cañadón Macho

Distance: 10.5 km This hike is ideal for those looking to photograph native wildlife and southern Patagonian landscapes, combined with a light, very low-difficulty activity. The vehicle will drop us off at Sarmiento Gate, from where we’ll begin our walk toward the main entrance of Torres del Paine National Park (Laguna Amarga). This 2.5-hour hike (approximately 7 km) crosses the characteristic Patagonian steppe and pampa. Afterward, we’ll continue to the Cañadón Macho area, known for its tranquility and low visitor density — making it an ideal habitat for wildlife. Here, we’ll take a 3.5 km walk across the open steppe with stunning views of the Torres del Paine peaks. During the journey, we’ll have the opportunity to observe large herds of guanacos grazing freely in their natural environment, and possibly spot rheas, foxes, armadillos, upland geese, condors, and even pumas.
