The Eberhard Fjord is a place rich in history. Along its shores lie Puerto Prat and Puerto Consuelo, the first European settlements in this part of Patagonia. After a 30-minute drive from Puerto Natales, we’ll arrive at the small village of Puerto Prat, where we’ll prepare our gear and get ready to begin our kayaking adventure. Before heading out, we’ll have a safety briefing to ensure a fun and secure experience. We’ll start paddling from Puerto Prat toward Estancia Puerto Consuelo, navigating along the Isla de los Muertos, which hosted the region’s first cemetery over a century ago. During the journey, we’ll spot a variety of bird species, including black-necked swans, coscoroba swans, taguas, ducks, and flamingos, among others. On the way back, we’ll make a short stop to hike to a viewpoint overlooking the Última Esperanza and Eberhard fjords, as well as the majestic Paine mountain range to the north. We’ll then return to our kayaks and paddle back to Puerto Prat, where we’ll visit an old settler’s house. There, our hosts — descendants of the first colonists — will welcome us with a hot drink and delicious homemade sopaipillas with jams. After this cozy and authentic experience, we’ll head back to Puerto Natales.
