Located just 30 minutes from Puerto Natales, this important natural monument is one of the most significant archaeological and paleontological sites in Patagonia. We’ll begin our visit at the main cave viewpoint, which offers one of the best panoramic views in the province — more than 350 meters above sea level. From there, we’ll observe the geological and hydrological features that reveal the region’s glacial past, as well as the vast Patagonian landscape in all its splendor. Next, we’ll explore the three caves of the reserve, starting with the smallest one, known as “Cueva Chica.” Despite its size, it’s fascinating for its depth and the rock formations created by centuries of water dripping and carbonate sedimentation. We’ll then continue to the Middle Cave (Cueva del Medio), where archaeologists discovered evidence of the earliest human presence in Patagonia, dating back approximately 12,000 years — making it one of the most important archaeological sites in southern South America. Finally, we’ll visit the largest and most famous cave: Cueva del Milodón. This impressive 200-meter-deep cavern, where remains of the extinct prehistoric animal known as the Milodón were found at the end of the 19th century, features a visitor circuit with informative panels and a life-size replica of the creature. After completing the tour, we’ll begin our return to Puerto Natales.
