The local climate is trasandean with a steppe degeneration climate. This climate is located to the east of the Patagonian mountain range, extending from Paine mountain range to the south and southeast, covering Brunswick península to the southern area of Tierra del Fuego.

Rainfall decreases markedly in relation to the western slopes of the Patagonian mountain range and the channels area, as air masses arrive with little moisture content after crossing the Andean peaks, becoming in a steppe landscape. This rainfall occurs throughout the year, but the annual amounts are in the range of 250-400 mm. or 10 % of the records from the west coast. The distribution of rainfall during the year is approximately homogeneous, but autumn (April and May) can be identified as the wettest months. A second peak may occur between November and January. In winter rainfall is almost entirely snow.

Continental characteristics make generally temperatures fall, with annual average meeting 6 ° C to 7 ° C. On the other hand, the thermal amplitudes increase: the year temperature is from 9 ° C to 10 ° C. Despite the latitude, winter temperatures are not excessively low because the average temperatures of the winter months are above 1 ° C., so that the period the ground is covered with snow is not very long in the most low areas near the sea. The minimum average temperatures are below 0 ° C between June and August.

Another feature of this climate is the persistent southwest and west direction wind, with an intensity average of 15 to 20. During the summer season wind storms are frequent, in which the average speed is 120 km/ h or even more.
