Horseback Riding Salto de las Chinas

Tours > Cabalgatas

The Estancia Tercera Barranca is adjacent to the Torres del Paine National Park and it is the starting point for this 6-hour horse-ride. During this hack across the steppe and into the foothills, we retrace the route taken more than a century ago by Lady Florence Dixie, a British traveler who, along with an entourage of friends and experienced local gauchos, rode across Patagonia.

A baqueano (local guide) will accompany the excursion; however a bilingual guide specialized in Patagonia and Torres del Paine can also be hired. Depending on the experience of the rider and the state of the Las Chinas River the excursion will either go to the Laguna Azul, or if this is not possible, to the waterfall on the Las Chinas River.

The level of physical fitness that is required, as well as the experience of the rider, is of low or low- medium. The Patagonian horses are well used to these types of rides. The estancia owns a large team of horses so there are mounts that are suitable for all types of riders, from beginners or children, up to the most experienced.

The Estancia Tercera Barranca with its amazing views of the Torres has more than 6,500 hectares of land that is used for sheep-rearing. There is also a comfortable country hostería (hotel), an organic vegetable garden and various hiking trails.
